A Guide The Dark Eyes Duet By Karina Halle

“We will never escape who we are, moonshine. The best we can do is to just do the best we can. That’s all.”

What’s It About?

Dark Eyes is a dark paranormal romance duet written by Karina Halle.

Imagine you go 21 years believing that you’re human yet always feeling different and alone. Welcome to Lenore Warwick’s life.

As her 21st birthday rolls around, however, things start to get weird. Her parents keep insisting she go on a vacation with only them, she starts seeing this shadowed man stalking her everywhere, and then she gets approached by some creepy dude claiming to know her parents. When she gets kidnapped right before her birthday by her now handsome stalker, the questions keep rolling in…until he reveals to her the truth: she’s not human at all — no…she’s a vampire, and not only that…she’s a witch too.

The Dark Eyes duet takes us through a story of self-discovery as Lenore learns more and more about what she is, a rare breed of supernatural creature. Witches and vampires don’t mix. They’re enemies. They certainly don’t have children. And when she finds out just who her father is, things take yet another turn.

Left and right, people are trying to stake their claim on her. Her adoptive witch parents. A Dark Order of vampires. Her birth father. What side will she choose?

And add to that her growing romance with her original stalker, a vampire named Absolon who has watched her since she was a child….and things get topsy turvy. It’s the two of them [and their found family] against the world it seems. So how will it all end? Can they save the world from the doom of the Dark Order? Will their budding romance survive it all? Well, if there’s one thing they know, it’s that they love a challenge…and they are willing to risk it all.

My Rating For The Duet

Book One: Black Sunshine

My Personal Rating — ★★★★★ — 5/5 Stars

Black Sunshine is book one in the Dark Eyes duet. It is a dark paranormal romance book written by Karina Halle.

Lenore Warwick is a 21-year-old human…or so she thinks. A week before her 21st birthday she is kidnapped by a handsome stranger who turns out to also be a vampire…who then tells her that she’s also a vampire. But wait! It doesn’t stop there. Not only is she a vampire, but she’s part witch too, hailing from two very powerful bloodlines. Talk about a shock to the system.

Add to that her budding romance with her kidnapper, a centuries old vampire who has vowed to never love again after a tragic experience years ago, and the challenges just seem to keep piling up.

Oh, you thought it was done? Nope. Now you have both witches and vampires wanting Lenore for themselves. Can her handsome kidnapper and his crew of vampire mercenaries keep her safe? Will she ever not feel alone? Will Absolon let her love him? And better yet…will he let himself love her?

I give this book 5/5 stars. I love a good vampire romance — thank you Twilight for starting that obsession way back in high school. This book gave you a good dose of that plus the addition of witches [kind of like that show A Discovery Of Witches which is also based on a book]. The tension between Absolon and Lenore was beautifully done. It wasn’t a super slow burn by any means but just the right kind of burn. Then, seeing Lenore begin to step into her power…I absolutely loved this. To see her going from someone who felt so alone to feeling like she was not only finding herself but finding a family as well. I’m a sucker for a found family type of vibe.

I think Karina Halle did a phenomenal job with the beginnings of Absolon and Lenore’s story. In this book you got through the shock of her being a vampire and defending her from those who want her for themselves.

Black Sunshine is book one in a 2-book duet. It doesn’t quite end on a cliffhanger but you know that the story continues on and concludes in book 2 [which is already available]. Black Sunshine is available on Kindle Unlimited. You can get book one in the Dark Eyes duet here.
