What’s It About?

The Devil’s Night series is a dark romance book series written by Penelope Douglas. Each book covers a new couple, minus the 2 short novellas that include all the couples plus more.

Devil’s Night tells the story of one night before Halloween where 4 friends — Michael Crist, Damon Torrance, Kai Mori, and William Grayson III — lives are forever changed. The books flip back to that night and then go back to the present moment where each guy is trying to heal from that one night so many years ago. In that healing process, they ultimately find love [all a second chance of some sort] and clean out the cesspool that is their small town of Thunder Bay.

Full of spice and angst, twists and turns, this is definitely a series I’ve enjoyed time and time again. From the plot, to the setting, to the characters — it’s definitely a 5 star read.

The Setting

The Devil’s Night series primarily takes place in two norther East Coast USA fictional towns called Thunder Bay and Meridian City.

Book One: Corrupt

My Personal Rating — ★★★★★ — 5/5 Stars

Corrupt is book one in the Devil’s Night series. It is a dark romance book written by Penelope Douglas.

Michael and Erika have been circling each other since they were kids — and Erika has always loved and wanted Michael. One night, she has her chance when he finally notices her — until the night ends suddenly and Michael friends end up arrested.

Three years go by. It’s radio silence from Michael when it comes to Erika. She’s all but given up on having any kind of relationship with him until they all show up — Michael and his three friends Kai, Damon, and Will. But they’re not showing up for nostalgia. No, they’re coming for vengeance. They all blame Erika for the three getting locked up while Michael suffered from guilt all through college.

The truth? That’s something that’s revealed at the end of this journey. But by then, everything has been ruined and there’s more on the line than just Erika’s feelings — it’s her life. Will Michael and the guys be able to face up to the truth? Or are they too lost in their own pasts?

I give this book 5/5 stars. I’ve read it multiple times and it’s just as good each time I come back to it. Michael is a true asshole BUT [and that’s a big but], without him, Erika would have become the typical Stepford-like wife in her small town. Michael recognized her yearning to just be herself and he cultivated it in her. He created his own ‘little monster’. I felt for Erika throughout this story and while I felt there needed to be just a bit more groveling — the guys messed up BIG time — I enjoyed this story thoroughly. The spice scenes — chef’s kiss. The word play — SWOON. And when Michael finally realizes his true feelings…and just how long he’d been in love with Erika — no words.

Corrupt is book 1 in a 7-book series. It does not end on a cliffhanger as each book covers a brand new relationship, though future characters are introduced in the books prior. Corrupt is available on Kindle Unlimited. You can get book one in the Devil’s Night series here.
