My Rating For The Duet

★★★★★ — 5/5 Stars

This is a short duet that I truly enjoyed reading [I’ve actually read it more than once]. This was also one of the first amnesia style romances I’ve ever read.

Can you imagine waking up and not remembering anything? Waking up to a fiancé who hates your guts and wants to take you down? And on top of that you have no idea why? And as the cherry on top, everyone keeps calling you a name no one resonates with? Yeah, that’s what our female main character, Reina Ellis, wakes up to in book one of this duet.

And it just gets better from there, doesn’t it? Not only does she not remember much, but then she discovers that she was a cold hearted bitch before her accident. She spends most of book one trying to rectify that and as she does, she gains allies and pieces of the truth to her puzzle. At the same time, however, once one question is answered, a million more seem to pop up. Add to that the fact that her attraction to the fiancé who hates her just keeps getting stronger and stronger….let’s just say this book is definitely filled with longing, angst, and stolen moments between two people who don’t really trust each other but want each other badly.

This, for me, was a short and easy read. It is considered a dark mafia romance, and it does have topics dealing with suicide. Always check the trigger warnings before reading any books — especially those that are considered dark romance.

Asher is a possessive and dominating main character but Reina gives back just as hard while also being so submissive. The stolen moments and slow burn-ish romance are definitely worth it, and to see them come together in the end just melted my heart.

I definitely give this duet a 5/5, and encourage you to dive into not only Asher and Reina’s story, but Rina Kent’s entire book universe. How she’s been able to tie all these characters together, giving them each their own story that is not a duplicate of any other character is beyond me. But she did it, and she made it so fun to read!

Book One: All The Lies

My Personal Rating — ★★★★★ — 5/5 Stars

All The Lies is book one in the Lies and Truths duet. It is a dark college romance book written by Rina Kent.

When Reina wakes up in the hospital to see Asher’s face, she has no idea who he is, though he claims to be her fiancé. When she returns to her life, she begins to realize how cruel she was. As she tries to redeem herself of her past, memories begin to flicker in, piecing the puzzle together. Why was she running? Who is she really? Why does Asher call her a monster?

I love me a good amnesia romance book. All Reina knows when she wakes up is that there is this attractive man with a deep voice and dark green eyes calling her a monster. That, and her real name isn’t Reina.

This book takes you on a journey of Reina trying to discover the truth of her past. Why was she so cruel to others? What secrets was she hiding? Why does Asher — her supposed fiancé — hate her so much? What’s the truth and what’s a lie?

At the same time, you get to see Asher’s point of view. You don’t quite fully understand why he hates Reina so much but you do see him struggling with his hate for her, especially since she’s become this new and improved version of herself: kind, real, and genuine. Is it all a game like she used to play before? Or is this the real Reina?

I give this book 5/5 stars. It’s book 1 in a duet, full of mystery, slow burn spice, and angst and it does end on a cliffhanger — but, book two is ready as soon as you finish book one. All The Lies is available on Kindle Unlimited. You can get book one in the Lies & Truths duet here.

Book Two: All The Truths

My Personal Rating — ★★★★★ — 5/5 Stars

All The Truths is book two in the Lies and Truths duet. It is a dark college romance book written by Rina Kent.

When Reina witnesses Asher confess to his sister’s grave his intentions on getting revenge on Reina, she is devastated. Her heart feels like it’s been ripped in two. This whole time she’s been trying to redeem herself of her past and she thought her and Asher were falling in love. But now…now she’s even more determined to figure out exactly what she did to earn Asher’s hate so that she can turn it around.

Reina’s memories come back strong in this book. All the pieces of the puzzle begin to click together and when evidence of Asher’s sister Arianna’s secret come to life, Asher and Reina realize just how many lies were between them. Can their new love survive it? Especially now when Reina’s on the run from another part of her past?

I really enjoyed reading book two. There were so many questions to answer, so many layers to the story to discover. Asher’s sister was a whole problem in itself…one I didn’t truly see coming — so to see that get wrapped up and solved with a neat little bow felt good.

Another thing I like about this book is knowing that there are other characters who get their stories told. Reina’s twin, Rai, for one, has her own duet [the Throne Duet which you can find in my Amazon Shop here], and then Naomi and Sebastian have their own duet [the Thorns Duet which you can find in my Amazon shop here].

I give this book 5/5 stars. It’s book two in a duet, full of spice and angst and is available on Kindle Unlimited. You can get book two in the Lies & Truths duet here.
